STM A709-50W is a standard specification for structural steel used primarily in the fabrication of steel bridges. The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this steel in most environments is considerably better than that of carbon steel with or without copper.ASTM A709-50W should have an atmospheric corrosion index of 6.00 or better.
A709-50W in its exposed (unpainted) state is suitable for many applications such as: pedestrian bridges, highway bridges and other bridge components, railroad bridges and overpasses.
ASTM A709-50W has a minimum yield strength of 50ksi and a minimum tensile strength of 70ksi.
