S355M Carbon Hot Rolled Structural Steel H Beam
S355M is a high strength carbon structural steel that is hot rolled into H-Beam. "S" stands for structural steel, "355" stands for a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa, and "M" stands for the steel being thermomechanically rolled to improve the mechanical properties.
Chemical Composition of S355M Carbon Hot Rolled Structural Steel H-Beam
Carbon (C): 0.12 – 0.22%
Manganese (Mn): 1.00 – 1.60%
Silicon (Si): 0.55% max
Phosphorus (P): 0.025% max
Sulfur (S): 0.025% max
Copper (Cu): 0.55% max
Other elements may be present in trace amounts.
Mechanical properties of S355M carbon hot rolled structural steel
Yield strength: ≥ 355 MPa
Tensile strength: 470 – 630 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 22% (gauge length 5.65 × thickness)
Impact energy: ≥ 27 J, -20°C (thickness ≥ 50mm)
GNEE offers S355M H-beams in various sizes, all standardized and customizable upon request. The flange of the H-beam is wider than the web, providing excellent bending resistance and stability. Common dimensions include height, flange width and web thickness.
S355M steel can be easily welded using all conventional welding methods. Preheating may be required for thicker sections or where there is a risk of hydrogen cracking. In addition, S355M H-beams can be painted or galvanized to prevent corrosion. Other surface treatments such as shot peening or primer can also be applied.
