Zr702 Zirconium Bar Products Description
Zirconium 702 fasteners (ASTM B493), also known as UNS R60702, are reactive metals that have a high affinity for oxygen and form a protective oxide layer in air at room temperature. The oxide protective layer gives zirconium alloys universal corrosion resistance.
This oxide layer can be improved by heat treatment processes. A well-shaped, upgraded oxide layer serves as an excellent load-bearing surface, is resistant to a wide variety of materials, is highly resistant to decomposition in high-speed frames, and enhances corrosion resistance in certain corrosive environments.
When Astm B493 zirconium 702 fasteners are exposed to hydrochloric acid, the corrosion rate is less than 5 mpy. This low corrosion rate applies even when zirconium hexagon socket head cap screws are exposed to a wide range of concentrations of hydrochloric acid or HCl, and to a wide range of temperatures above the boiling point.
