A36 hot rolled channels have a rough, bluish gray surface.A36 is made of mild steel for durability. Hot rolled C-channels have a "structural shape", i.e., at least one dimension (excluding length) greater than 3 in. The flange face slope in C-channels is approximately 16-2/3%, unlike "MC" channels. Common applications include structural supports, trailers, and other construction uses.ASTM A36 / A36M-08 is the standard specification for carbon structural steel.
