SM540 Structural Steel Channel

SM540 channel steel beam is a high-strength structural steel grade specified by JIS standards, mainly produced in hot-rolled steel form, and can also be made into structural channels for various applications. The "540" in the SM540 name indicates a minimum tensile strength of 540 MPa (N/mm²).

Comparison with other grades

SS400 channel c steel: Lower tensile strength (400–510 MPa) and yield strength (≥ 245 MPa), making SM540 channel beam a stronger alternative for demanding applications.
SS490: Moderate strength (490–610 MPa tensile strength, ≥ 325 MPa yield strength), SM540 channel steel offers a higher performance threshold.
A36 (ASTM) structural channel: Similar strength to SS400 (400–550 MPa tensile strength), but SM540 c-channel beam offers a higher minimum tensile strength guarantee.
