A992 Wide Flange Steel Beams
A992 Wide Flange Steel Beams feature a unique "H" cross-sectional shape with two parallel flanges connected by a central web.
GNEE's A992 Wide Flange Beams are available in a variety of sizes, typically ranging from W4 (4 inches deep) to W44 (44 inches deep), with weights ranging from 9 pounds per foot to over 300 pounds per foot for giant beams, which have wider flanges than standard I-beams to better resist bending and shear forces.
A992 H-beams are produced using a hot rolling process, where the steel is heated and formed into the desired shape. Surface treatments such as black (untreated), galvanized, or primed can be applied depending on environmental requirements. Non-standard sizes can also be customized to meet specific project needs.
Advantages of A992 Wide Flange H Beams
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Alloying elements and improved yield strength enable these beams to support heavy loads while remaining relatively lightweight, reducing material costs and structural weight.
Excellent Weldability: Low carbon content and balanced chemistry ensure A992 steel can be easily welded using conventional methods, allowing for efficient fabrication.
Corrosion Resistance: Additions of copper and other elements provide moderate atmospheric corrosion resistance, which can be enhanced with coatings.
Due to its superior properties, A992 has largely replaced older standards such as ASTM A36 (36 ksi yield strength) and A572 Grade 50 (50 ksi yield strength). While A36 is still used for lighter applications, A992 is stronger and has a better weight-to-strength ratio.
