What are HEA and HEB H-profiles?

HEA and HEB are European standard H-profiles with excellent cross-sectional geometry and load-bearing capacity. Both types have an "H" shape with two horizontal flanges connected by a vertical web.

 

Dimensions and structural features of HEA and HEB h profile steel:

HEA (High Side A) h steel profile: Compared with HEB profile, HEA profile is lighter, with thinner flanges and webs. The flange width is usually proportional to the beam height, which is suitable for lighter structural frames.

 

HEB (High Side B) steel h profile: HEB profile is heavier, with thicker flanges and webs, and has higher strength and stiffness. The flange width matches the beam height up to 300 mm. Above this height, the flange width will be fixed at 300 mm to enhance stability.

 

Both HEA and HEB h beam profiles are hot rolled steel profiles with parallel flanges, which ensure uniform load distribution and easy connection of structural components.

Main differences
HEA beams have a lighter cross-section and are less deep than HEB beams of the same nominal size.
HEB beams have a higher section modulus and moment of inertia, making them more resistant to bending and shear forces.
Standard lengths are typically 6 to 18 meters (e.g. 12.1 meters, 15.1 meters), but GNEE can also order custom lengths.
