What is SM490 steel?
SM490 h shaped steel beam is a high strength structural steel produced according to Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS G 3106). "SM" stands for "medium-high strength manganese steel" and has excellent strength and weldability for a wide range of structural applications.

The chemical composition of SM490 high quality steel includes carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur and small amounts of alloying elements. The carbon content is carefully controlled to ensure a good balance between strength and ductility.

Silicon (Si): 0.55% max
Phosphorus (P): 0.035% max
