The main components of I-beams include the elements carbon (C), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P) and sulphur (S). The content of these elements has an important influence on the performance of I-beams. The content of carbon (C) is usually less than 0.08 per cent, the content of manganese (Mn) is around 2.0 per cent, and the content of phosphorus (P) and sulphur (S) are less than 0.035 per cent and 0.03 per cent respectively. The content ranges of these components are roughly as follows: carbon (C) < 0.08 per cent, manganese (Mn) 2.0 per cent, phosphorus (P) < 0.035 per cent and sulphur (S) < 0.03 per cent.
