416 stainless steel bar stock is a machining grade stainless steel that does not contain martensite and can be NMened by heat treatment to achieve higher strength and NMness. Because 416 Stainless Steel is cost effective and readily machinable, it can easily be used in a highly tempered condition. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, 416 stainless steel offers better machining characteristics at the expense of corrosion resistance. High sulphur, easy cutting grades like alloy 416 are not suitable for use in marine or any chloride environments. We can provide 416 stainless steel bar for any size project.

416 stainless steel rounds have a high resistance to acids, alkalis, fresh water and dry air. However, they have less corrosion resistance than non-freecutting steels, austenitic steels, and ferritic alloy 430 with 17% chromium. These steels are NMened to obtain maximum corrosion resistance and a smooth surface. The high sulphur content of 416 free cutting steel is unsuitable for chlorinated and marine environments.
