Mild steel, also known as soft steel, has a carbon content of 0.10 per cent to 0.30 per cent Mild steel easily accepts various processes such as forging, welding and cutting, and is commonly used in the manufacture of chains, rivets, bolts, shafts and so on. Carbon steel with less than 0.25 per cent carbon content is also known as soft steel because of its low strength, low NMness and softness.
