S355J2WP pipes are made from a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy known as S355J2WP. This alloy contains chromium (0.30–0.70%), copper (0.25–0.55%), and phosphorus (less than 0.035%), which enhance its rust resistance, making it ideal for outdoor applications. These pipes are commonly used in bridges, building exteriors, and various outdoor structures, including containers and tanks.
The pipes are made from carbon steel, a mixture of iron, carbon (0.12–0.20%), and other elements. They come in two types: seamless and welded. Seamless pipes are produced by drawing hot metal through a mold to form a hollow tube without seams, while welded pipes are made by rolling steel plates into tubes and welding the seams. Both types maintain excellent corrosion resistance and offer a yield strength of 355 MPa, tensile strength of 470–630 MPa, elongation over 20%, and reliable performance across wall thicknesses of 3–25 mm and diameters of 50–500 mm.

One major advantage of S355J2WP pipes is their superior corrosion resistance compared to standard carbon steel or stainless steel pipes, making them ideal for coastal areas or regions with high salt content in the air. They also perform well outdoors, effectively resisting rust caused by weather conditions.
Due to their high corrosion resistance, S355J2WP pipes require minimal maintenance, reducing the need for costly repairs or replacements. They provide a cost-effective solution for outdoor applications where both corrosion resistance and strength are critical, without requiring additional protective coatings. The pipes can be easily welded, formed, and fabricated, making them versatile for various industrial applications.
Common applications of S355J2WP pipes include bridges, buildings, and other structures exposed to harsh environmental conditions. They offer excellent corrosion resistance, good mechanical properties, a high strength-to-weight ratio, and low maintenance requirements. When exposed to atmospheric elements, the steel develops a protective rust layer approximately 50–150 μm thick, preventing corrosion and extending the service life of the pipes.
