A992 structural h beam is a high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) in the ASTM A992/A992M standard, designed for wide wing steel. It is superior to traditional A36 structural steel h beam and A572GR50 h beam materials in strength, weldability and seismic performance, and has higher performance consistency and economy.

A992 h beam structure vs. other materials
Compared to A36 h beam: A992 is stronger (50-65 ksi vs. 36 ksi) and suitable for high loads, while A36 steel h beam is more economical but has limited performance.
Compared to A572GR50 h section steel: A992 steel h column has a narrower and more consistent performance range (50-65 ksi vs. ≥ 50 ksi), better earthquake resistance, and often replaces A572GR50 h beam structure.
Compared to S355 h shaped steel (European standard): Similar chemical composition and performance, but A992 h section beam is more focused on wide wing steel applications.
