Brand meaning: SS400 is the steel grade specified by the Japanese JIS standard (Japanese Industrial Standard). "SS" stands for "structural steel", and "400" means that the minimum tensile strength σb of the steel plate is 400MPa, which belongs to carbon structural steel.

SS400 H-beam mainly contains carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) and other elements. The carbon content is between 0.16% and 0.22%, which belongs to low carbon steel. The P and S contents are strictly controlled, both less than 0.050%, because P will increase the cold brittleness of steel, and S will cause hot brittleness of steel.

Mechanical properties
Yield strength: The minimum yield strength of SS400 hot-rolled steel is usually ≥245MPa, which varies with the thickness of the steel. When the thickness of the steel is less than 16mm, the yield strength is about 245MPa.
Tensile strength: The tensile strength of SS400 carbon steel is between 370-510MPa, which can withstand the tensile load of building structures or mechanical parts during use.
Elongation: The elongation of SS400 low carbon steel is ≥26%. When subjected to a certain degree of tension or other deformation force, the steel can undergo a certain plastic deformation without breaking immediately.
Impact energy: The impact energy of SS400 steel is ≥27J.

Weldability: SS400 H-shaped structural steel has good weldability and is convenient for welding and other processing operations.
Cold processing performance: Easy to perform cold processing operations such as cutting and bending.
