S235JR hot rolled carbon steel beams
S235JR hot rolled steel is a specific grade of structural steel within the European standard EN 10025 - 2. The "S" stands for structural steel, the "235" stands for the minimum yield strength in MPa, and the "JR" indicates its impact resistance at room temperature.
S235JR carbon steel is widely used in general construction projects, including building frames, bridges, industrial sheds and various mechanical equipment supports, and its versatility is suitable for a variety of applications requiring moderate strength and good formability.
Chemical composition of S235JR mild steel h beam
Carbon (C): Carbon content is approximately 0.17% - 0.20% maximum.
Manganese (Mn): Manganese content is generally between 0.30% and 0.60%.
Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): Phosphorus content is limited to a maximum of 0.045%, and sulfur content is limited to a maximum of 0.045%.
Silicon (Si): Generally about 0.10% - 0.35%.
Mechanical properties of S235JR carbon steel h beam
Yield strength: The minimum yield strength is 235 MPa.
Tensile strength: The tensile strength is usually between 360 and 510 MPa.
Elongation: The minimum elongation requirement is 25% of 5.65√S₀.
Impact toughness: Good impact resistance at room temperature.
Manufacturing process of S235JR h beam steel structure
Hot rolling: The billet is first heated to a high temperature, usually around 1100-1200°C, and gradually shaped into a characteristic H-shaped cross-section through a series of rolling mills.
Cooling and finishing: After hot rolling, the H-beam is cooled in a controlled manner. The cooling rate affects the microstructure and properties of the steel. Subsequently, the H-beam may undergo additional processing steps such as straightening to ensure dimensional accuracy, cutting to the required length, and surface treatment to enhance its appearance and corrosion resistance. Common surface treatments include painting, galvanizing, or applying anti-rust coatings.
GNEE implements strict quality control procedures throughout the manufacturing process, including regular chemical composition analysis to ensure that the steel meets the specified standards, mechanical property testing to verify yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and impact toughness, and the use of non-destructive testing methods to detect any internal or surface defects.
