When S355J2 is made into H-beam steel (also known as H-section or I-beam with H-shaped cross-section), it is able to support large loads while maintaining structural integrity for use in construction, engineering and heavy structural applications.

 

The "S" in S355J2 h section steel stands for "structural steel", "355" indicates the minimum yield strength of 355 MPa (thickness ≤ 16 mm), and "J2" indicates its toughness, with a minimum impact energy of 27 joules at -20°C, ensuring its suitability for cryogenic environments.

Density: Approx. 7850 kg/m³ (typical value for mild steel)
Young's modulus: 190–210 GPa (190 GPa conservatively taken for design)
Hardness: Brinell NMness (HB) ranges from 146 to 187 HB, depending on processing

 

S355J2 H-shaped steel is produced by hot rolling and complies with the following standards:
EN 10025-2: Specifies technical delivery conditions for non-alloy structural steels.
EN 10034: Specifies tolerances on shape and dimensions for I- and H-shaped sections of structural steel.
DIN 1025-2 (HEB series) and DIN 1025-3 (HEA series): Defines the dimensions of European standard H-shaped steels with parallel flanges.

 

S355J2 structural h beam is usually supplied in the normalized condition (in some cases indicated as S355J2+N), which refines the grain structure, improves toughness and uniformity, and also controls the silicon content for enhanced galvanizing performance.
