1: AISI420 steel introduction
AISI 420 stainless steel (SS420) is a straight chromium martensitic stainless steel grade with certain wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high hardness.
It offers good ductility in its annealed state and excellent corrosion resistance properties when the metal is polished, surface grounded or hardened. This grade has the highest hardness - 50HRC - among all the stainless steel grades with 12% chromium.
Stainless steel grades that are similar to grade 420 stainless steels include martensitic steels such as the other versions of grade 420, having vanadium, sulphur and molybdenum in their composition, and the grade 440 series. Non-standard grade 420C has carbon content that is little higher than that of grade 420.

1. What material is 1.4021 X20Cr13?
Description. Grade 1.4021 is a martensitic stainless steel that can reach a hardness of about 46 HRC after hardening and tempering and has high abrasion resistance with moderate corrosion resistance. Its production is usually carried out in air (EAF+AOD).
2.What is AISI 420 material standard?
Basically, grade 420 is an alteration of grade 410 with higher carbon content to increase hardness, strength, and wear resistance. Grade 420 is a high-carbon and low chromium stainless steel. Like all 400-grade series stainless steel, grade 420 stainless steel can be hardened by heat treatment.
3.What is the steel equivalent of X20Cr13?
Stainless steel AISI 420 is a martensitic chromium steel that is also known under the designations 1.4021, BS 420S37, and X20Cr13.
4.What is the difference between 420 and 420B?
Grade 420B is a high carbon version of grade 420 stainless steel. It is high carbon content which optimizes hardness. Like grade 420, grade 420B stainless steel can be hardened by heat-treatment. Grade 420B is martensitic stainless steel for instruments.
5.Does 420 steel rust?
Susceptibility to Corrosion: Despite being stainless steel, 420 is more prone to corrosion than austenitic grades, especially in highly acidic or saline environments.
