1. The UC 152 x 152 Section

The UC 152 x 152 is a universal column with a nominal depth of about 152 mm and a flange width of about 152 mm, giving a nearly square cross-section that resists buckling equally in both directions. It is rolled in mass classes from around 23 kg/m to 37 kg/m, with the heavier classes used where compression is higher. The square footprint makes connections and column-to-beam joints simple to detail.

2. Grades S235, S275 and S355

The three grades cover increasing strength: S235 with 235 MPa yield for light duty, S275 with 275 MPa for general building, and S355 with 355 MPa for bridge components and heavier frames. For a fixed column load, moving from S275 to S355 can reduce the mass class or the size of the section. All grades are weldable and are supplied with EN 10025 certificates.

3. Forms: Hot-Rolled, Welded and Galvanized

Hot-rolled UC sections come straight from the mill with full length and dimensional tolerances. Welded columns are built from plate where the size is non-standard or where very tight tolerances are needed. Galvanized columns add a zinc coating for bridges, handrails and outdoor structures where maintenance access is limited.

4. Bridge and Building Applications

In bridges, the UC 152 x 152 is used for parapet posts, cross-frames and light truss members, while in buildings it serves as columns for portal frames, mezzanine supports and lift shafts. Because it is a stock size in most yards, short lead times and good prices are available for small and medium quantities. Fabrication such as drilling, end plating and notching can be done before delivery.

5. What to Confirm When Ordering

Confirm the mass class, grade, length, surface treatment and any testing required, such as impact testing for cold service. Ask whether the price includes delivery and what certification documents will be issued. Stock availability should be verified in writing so that the project schedule is not delayed.
