H-beams possess remarkable mechanical properties. They have high tensile strength, which is the ability to resist being pulled apart. The tensile strength of H-beams is usually in the range of 235MPa to 690MPa, depending on the grade of steel used. For example, Q235 grade H-beams have a minimum yield strength of 235MPa, while high-strength steel H-beams can reach much higher values. H-beams also have good compressive strength, allowing them to support heavy vertical loads without buckling. Their modulus of elasticity, a measure of how much a material will deform under stress, is typically around 200 - 210 GPa, similar to other structural steels. This ensures that H-beams maintain their shape and structural integrity under normal operating loads. In addition, H-beams have good fatigue resistance, which means they can withstand repeated loading cycles without cracking, making them suitable for structures that experience dynamic loads, like bridges and railway tracks.
