Stainless steel round bars are regulated by three key international standards, each with unique focuses:

 

ASTM A276 (USA): Covers austenitic (304, 316), ferritic (430), and martensitic (410) grades. It specifies chemical composition (e.g., 18–20% Cr for 304), tensile strength (≥515 MPa for 304), and surface finish (Ra ≤32 μin for cold-finished bars).

EN 10088-3 (EU): Classifies grades by numeric codes (1.4301 = 304, 1.4401 = 316) with stricter sulfur limits (<0.015% for 1.4301) to enhance corrosion resistance. It mandates more rigorous testing for intergranular corrosion (e.g., ASTM A262 Practice E) for welded parts.

JIS G4303 (Japan): Focuses on cold-finished bars with tight dimensional tolerances (±0.01mm for diameters <10mm) for precision applications like watch components. It includes grades like SUS304 and SUS440C (high-carbon stainless for cutting tools).

 

All three standards require traceability from melt to finished product and corrosion testing (e.g., salt spray for 1000 hours for 316), ensuring reliability in medical, marine, and chemical processing applications.
