A valid H-beam material certificate (or mill test report, MTR) is a legal document verifying compliance with specifications. It includes:
- Buyer and supplier information: Names, addresses, and order numbers.
- Product details: H-beam dimensions, grade, heat number, and quantity.
- Mechanical properties: Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and impact test results (e.g., Charpy V-notch values at specified temperatures).
- Chemical composition: Percentages of elements like carbon (C), manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), and alloying elements (e.g., chromium, nickel for high-strength grades).
- Testing standards: References to the standards used for testing (e.g., ASTM E8 for tensile tests, ASTM A370 for mechanical testing).
- Inspection results: Confirmation that the batch passed visual, dimensional, and non-destructive tests (e.g., ultrasonic or magnetic particle inspection, if required).
- Authorized signature: Signature of the mill's quality control officer, validating the report's accuracy.
Certificates are issued per heat number, allowing traceability from production to end-use, which is critical for industries like construction and aerospace where safety is paramount.
