While both are parallel flange channels, Australian PFC and European UPE differ in three key ways:
Standards: PFC follows AS/NZS 3679.1 (300 MPa min yield for 300PLUS®), while UPE adheres to EN 10025-2 (355 MPa min yield for S355JR).
Dimensions: PFC sizes (e.g., PFC 200: 200 mm height, 75 mm flange width) are optimized for Australian construction, whereas UPE sizes (e.g., UPE 200: 200 mm height, 75 mm flange width) align with Eurocode 3. Tolerances are similar but not identical-PFC has ±1.0 mm height tolerance for ≤150 mm, vs. UPE's ±1.0 mm for ≤100 mm.
Composition: PFC (300PLUS®) has higher manganese (1.00–1.60%) than UPE (S355JR: 1.00–1.60% Mn, identical), but PFC may include trace elements (e.g., copper) for corrosion resistance in Australian coastal climates. These differences mean PFC and UPE are not always interchangeable; Australian projects require PFC to meet ACC and AS/NZS standards.
