Channel steel is a long strip of steel with a grooved cross-section. A section steel with a cross-sectional shape of a groove. Channel steel is a carbon structural steel for construction and machinery, which is a section steel with complex cross-section, and its cross-sectional shape is groove-shaped. The raw material billet for channel steel is carbon knotted steel or low-alloy steel billet with a carbon content of no more than 0.25%. The finished channel is delivered in hot-formed, normalized or hot-rolled condition.
Channel steel is divided into ordinary channel steel and light channel steel. The specification of hot-rolled ordinary channel steel is 5-40#. The specifications of hot-rolled flexible channel steel supplied by agreement between the supply and demand parties are 6.5-30#.
According to the shape, the channel can be divided into 4 types: cold-formed equal-sided channel, cold-formed unequal channel, cold-formed inner curling channel, and cold-formed outer curling channel.
Uses: Channel steel is mainly used in building structures, curtain wall engineering, machinery and equipment, vehicle manufacturing, fixed panel cabinets and other industrial structures, channel steel is often used in conjunction with I-beam. In use, it is required to have good welding, riveting performance and comprehensive mechanical properties. According to the theory of steel structure, it should be the channel steel wing plate stressed, that is, the channel steel should be upright, not lying on its stomach.
Appearance quality requirements: the surface quality of channel steel and the allowable deviation of geometry are specified in the standard. It is generally required that the surface shall not have harmful defects in use, and shall not have significant torsion, and the allowable value of the channel steel wave bend (sickle bend) and the value and tolerance value of the relevant parameters of the cross-sectional shape of the channel steel of each specification shall be stipulated. The main manifestations of incorrect geometry of channel steel are: collapse angle, leg expansion and leg merging, etc.
