What is the classification of tool steel?

Tool steel can be divided into cutting tool steel, mold steel and gauge steel according to different uses; according to the chemical composition can be divided into carbon tool steel and alloy tool steel. Used for cutting tool steel, its working part is mainly in the cutting edge, known as cutting edge steel.

Cutting tool steel in the cutting process by bending, shear, impact, vibration, friction and other high stress, in the working part will produce heat, so that the edge of the temperature rise, may rise to 500 ~ 600 ℃ or even higher, at the same time, the edge of the wear also occurs. Therefore, the requirements of cutting edge steel with high NMness and wear resistance, a certain degree of toughness and plasticity, some cutting edge steel is also required to have a certain degree of thermal NMness.

Hot Work Steel

Tool steel for metal forming process is called die steel, according to its working condition can be divided into cold working die steel, hot working die steel and plastic die steel. Cold work mold at room temperature, such as punching, cold heading die, cold extrusion mold, cutting edge mold, finishing mold, etc., requires high NMness, high wear resistance and a certain degree of toughness.

Hot work mold for processing red hot metal or liquid metal, make it form, mold temperature cycle lift, subject to "thermal fatigue" role, but also subject to a lot of pressure, impact, wear and erosion, require high NMness and strength at high temperatures, thermal fatigue resistance and good toughness. Most of the plastic products with molding, plastic mold steel has gradually developed into a special steel series.
