Structural channels, also known as c-channels or parallel flange channels, are beams that are used primarily in building construction and civil engineering.
Structural steel channels can be used in many different applications. It can be used in buildings, tractor trailers and vehicle frame chassis, among others.
Structural channels are not as commonly used in construction as symmetrical beams, partly because their axis of curvature is not centered on the width of the flange. If a load is applied uniformly across its top, the beam will tend to twist away from the web.
