Nickel 718 (UNS# N07718) or Inconel 718 is a precipitation hardening nickel-chromium alloy containing molybdenum, iron, niobium, and small amounts of aluminum and titanium. It is designed to exhibit significant yield, high strength, good ductility and creep fracture properties at temperatures up to 704°C (1300°F).
Compared to other nickel-based superalloys, 718 has good formability, weldability, and low-temperature allowability. The slow age-hardening properties of alloy 718 also allow it to be annealed and welded without spontaneous hardening during heating and cooling. The alloy is also non-magnetic and offers significant corrosion and oxidation resistance for use in applications such as jet engines, airframe components, and high-temperature bolts and fasteners.
