Nickel Alloy Steel Products Description
Alloy 400 (UNS N04400) is a soft copper-nickel alloy that is resistant to a variety of corrosive environments. The alloy is often named for use in mild oxidizing environments, neutral environments, and gradually weakening environments. Another area of application is in marine environments and other non-oxidizing chloride solutions.
Alloy 400 is more resistant to corrosion than commercially available pure nickel (UNS N02200) in attenuated environments, and more resistant to corrosion than refined copper alloys under oxidizing conditions. Alloy 400 may be considered for use in suitably attenuated acid, neutral or alkaline solutions. The alloy is resistant to most bases, salts, organics, and atmospheric conditions.
Although corrosive stress cracking has occurred in this material at high temperatures, high stresses, and high corrosive concentrations, Alloy 400 may be considered for use in colder alkaline corrosive conditions. The alloy is used in weak acids such as sulfur and hydrogen chloride, especially when unventilated and oxide-free.
